Creative & Editorial Consultant

Lola Abrera is a Berlin-based creative and editorial consultant with expertise in content creation and storytelling across various platforms.

Her professional experience includes roles as a content creator, copywriter, and client adviser for KPUNKT Health and Technology Marketing agency, where she worked with clients such as Philips Healthcare, and Medmix. In her role as a digital content lead for Vivy, a health app powered by Allianz, Lola focused on content strategy and development to enhance user engagement. Lola also served as a story scout for Spooked, a podcast under the Snap Judgment family, sourcing gripping narratives. Additionally, Lola connects artists with opportunities as a publishing agent for Snap Collective.

Her earlier career includes roles as a presenter and scriptwriter for the Living Asia Channel, managing editor for BBC Top Gear Philippines, and managing editor and social media manager for Good Housekeeping Magazine Philippines. She also managed a Filipino folk-punk band and produced an underground comic book. Lola's writings, covering everything from subversive rap battles to social issues, have appeared in numerous print and online publications such as the Manila Bulletin, FHM Philippines, and Women’s Health Philippines.

Caught in the chaos of the Mt. Pinatubo volcanic eruption, Lola realized at the tender age of eight that life was meant to be an adventure. This experience instilled in her a determination to champion diverse voices and advocate for community storytelling. She founded The First Reel in 2015, initiating a film festival dedicated to showcasing Filipino films. The platform expanded to include engaging post-screening events, fostering opportunities for underrepresented creatives and promoting community-building.

In 2016, Lola completed her MA in Visual and Media Anthropology at Freie Universität Berlin. As a visual storyteller, she has used film and photography to relay in-depth narratives of participants and collaborators whose lives have been colored by their experiences as migrants and survivors. Her visual work has been exhibited in Berlin, Kyoto, and Lisbon.

Having lived in the Philippines, Hawaii, and San Francisco, Lola now resides in Berlin with her son, embracing life's adventures through cultural exploration and creative expression.
